"When AK dials it up for her big notes, it's tough to tell if it's her heart that's breaking or your own." - C.D. DiGuardia
Living in a sleepless, bustling city, in a basement apartment where the train ran underneath and the roof caved in, inspired a rush of songwriting for Alexandra. Afire with songs and sounds, she re-routed her career away from her classical music and voice training towards her unique perspective of the world in New York, the city that had given her something to say.
Her self-released EP entitled Stars | Right shows her to be an inimitable musician and a true teller of tales. In music school, her attention was irresistibly pulled to other instruments in the practice rooms; the sound of a lone glockenspiel in the night, the “whomp” of a tuba, the plucking of a harp, all infiltrated her songwriting.
With Lindsey Cosgrove on the Clarinet, Hajanl Pivnick playing violin, Carl Limbacher on the upright bass, Ross Marshall on drums and AK at the piano, this band conjures the sweeping, climactic and dramatic world she’s created. She offers up ideas on the truths of life, unfailing optimism and uncertainty of love.
